The earliest artificial leather was made by coating PVC on woven (or knitted) base fabric. To better simulate the appearance and structure of natural leather, the PVC coating foaming technology was developed, resulting in artificial leather with a PVC foaming coating. The PVC glass transition temperature and melting temperature are higher, generally requiring 160~210 ºC to processing, this is a major cause of PVC artificial leather processing and high energy consumption. Pure PVC begins to undergo a deHCl reaction at 120ºC, which leads to the degradation of PVC. This is the main reason why PVC artificial leather is not resistant to aging, and it also deteriorates the processing environment. Because the PVC coating has obvious flaws, with the development of polyurethane industry, began to appear the PU leather, commonly known as PU leather.
